fresh lemonade

happy 4th of july to everyone!

around our house, a 4th of july celebration is just not complete without lemonade. here's a quick and easy recipe!

fresh lemonade
yield: 2 quarts

1 c sugar
1/2 c water
1 c freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 5-6 small lemons)
6 c cold water or plain bubbly water
1 cute 2 year old, optional but recommended

begin by making a simple syrup by combining the sugar with 1/2 c water over medium heat. once the sugar has dissolved, remove from heat. this could also be done in the microwave.
next, juice the lemons until you have 1 cup of lemon juice. walk away from the pre-squeezed lemon juice in a bottle! just walk away!!

the aftermath.

i am in the "no pulp" category of humans, so i strain the juice. if you're a pulpy kind of person just fish out the seeds.

pour the juice along with 6 c of cold water and the sugar syrup into a pitcher and stir (this is where the cute 2 year old comes in handy).

pour over ice and garnish with sugar-coated lemon slices.

don't fight kids! there's enough for everyone. :)
